Life is confusing. No matter how far into it you are you're always racing against the clock trying to find a purpose before your time's up, that's what this song is all about. But, somewher i also believe that Linda wants to tell something about "Male domination".. refer to these lines

For whatever that means."

and later in the song, she also says says

"And I pray, oh my God do I pray
I pray every single day
For a revolution"

This album sold 6 million copies worldwide, won the Best song at the Bay Area Music awards, Linda Perry(vocalist) won Best Female Vocalist.... Need i say anything more about this song or this album.

The title of this song "What's up" is not in the lyrics. The Chorus says "What's going on", but as "What's going on" was also the title of a 1971 Marvin Gaye R&B Classic, they always called this song "Whats up"
